A prime place for any river goer, Kimtu is located 48 miles northeast of Eureka, out highway 299, near the town of Willow Creek. The beach has plenty of sandy or small pebble locations for you to set up your sunbathing camp. The Trinity River current can be very swift in the late spring and early summer months, so please use caution. The best place for swimming is near the large jumping rock about 100 yards to the right of the parking lot, as there is a natural eddy creating a pool that makes the current much slower and safer to indulge in the cool waters on hot days.
Big rock Day Use Area
Located just down the road from Willow Creek on highway 96, Big Rock offers day use for those who want to spend the day on the Trinity River. It is a popular spot in the summer months for swimming, sunbathing, picnicking and just relaxing. The site also contains shaded picnic areas for those wanting to enjoy the river scenery out of the sun. There are toilet facilities available at the main picnic location.
A little further down highway 96 you will find the beautiful Tish Tang day use area. This land is owned and maintained by the local Hoopa Valley Tribal Reservation. This river paradise is approximately 56 miles from our inn, and makes for a great day adventure to relax in the sunshine on the river and to see the beautiful mountains and meadows located in the eastern part of our county.
