Select Carter House Room Type

The Carter House is a re-creation of a mansion which was first built in San Francisco in the 1880’s. The Carters gave the gracious 3-story mansion a new life in Eureka after discovering plans for it in an antique shop. Mark, being a builder, built the Carter House himself during the early 1980's. It was the original inn, the first of the four buildings that make up the Carter House Inns today. It started as a three bedroom inn where the Carters lived with their children. In 1986, they built what is now the Carter House Inn and Restaurant 301 building and moved there making the original Carter House into a 5 bedroom Inn. With four common rooms and its own kitchen, the Carter House is a perfect solution for a groups such as weddings, reunions and private dinner parties catered by our Restaurant 301.

Of course, all room reservations include complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres around the fire each evening, turndown with chocolates, tea and cookies each night and a full breakfast each morning.

Our Grand Award Restaurant 301  (Frommer's says we're one of the best restaurants in Northern California) is the perfect place for dinner. Request your dining reservations when you book your room. Enjoy your stay!
